Acne
Question
I m 30yrs old unmarried female. I hav been using clindamycin solution and tretinoin cream for my acne for last 3 yrs. It cleared my face entirely. But now again I m getting acne during my menstruation. Should I continue on same treatment? or seek for a doctor's advice? I have heard of taking contraceptive pills for hormone related acne, should I ask these from my doctor in next visit?
Answer
Dear Worried Girl,
Thank you for the question. The good thing is that once the treatment with Vitamin A and the antibiotics has cleared your face entirely. That means we should be able to achieve success again.
During menstrual cycle there is hormonal changes that can affect your acne problem.
first try general measures such as washing your skin daily with a gentle cleanser.
You can also prevent new acne breakouts with self-care measures like
Washing face twice a day removing excess oil and dead skin cells.
Over the counter cream products (Benzoyl peroxide / Salicylic acid as the active ingredient)
Avoid heavy makeup and remove makeup before going to bed.
If all that fails get a Dermatology opinion.
