Question

POST Operation Hysterectomy

I have had TAH 4 weeks back. How do I know my progress of recovery. Is there is a test to determine the healing progress of the incision and the vaginal incision (vaginal cuff). I was adviced not to lift anyting. After 4 weeks is it ok to lift around 3kgs ?. I have a pain right above the incision. Looks like it is a swelling but not on the incision but right above it. Any place where I can get instructions as what to do and don't durng the recovery period.

Answer

Dear Sandra,

Complete heeling of a surgical wound will take 3 months, However you can restart normal work that you have been doing after 3 to 4 week of surgery. If you have a pain just above the surgical incision, this could be due to various reasons. If you have noticed discoloured skin over that area, this could be a heamatoma (blood clot) which you need to seek medical advice. Otherwise you can wait and see.
