Vertigo
Vertigo is the illusion of spinning movement. It is quite a common symptom. Remember it is a symptom, not a disease it self.
This symptom can be due to many reasons including inner ear diseases, brain abnormalities, vision abnormalities, blood vessel block and nerve problems.
The treating doctor will take detailed history of the patient, examine the patient's ears, nervous system etc and may order tests like hearing tests, blood tests and imaging test. (e. g. CT scan, MRI scans).
After thorough evaluation, which results in a proper diagnosis, the treatment can be initiated. The commonest type of vertigo is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).which is due to a problem of the inner ear. This can be treated on table by a simple exercise by which the inner ear abnormality can be corrected. (Epley's repositioning maneuver)
If you have this symptom, please see a general doctor who might refer you to an ENT Specialist as well.
