Leptospirosis
' When Rats can kill...'
This is a disease caused by an organism that prevails in the rat urine. It can enter the body through damaged skin or mucous membranes like the eyes.
The main problem with it is that it can present as a general viral fever and unless diagnosed early and treated, patient can go into several major complications and even die.
Fever with chills, severe muscle pain, bodyache, yellowish tinge in eyes are some of the symptoms of Leptospirosis.
If you think you or someone known to you has the disease please take him to the nearest hospital. There, the doctors will examine and do the blood and urine tests to diagnose the condition.
Treatment include antibiotics and IV fluids. Some patients may need dialysis. ( clean the blood from bodily waste - taking over the function of the kidneys by a machine).
